It’s easy to list all of the things that are keeping you from success.
Maybe you don’t have enough time, or:
—you work too many hours
—you have family obligations
—there’s always an emergency popping up
—you can’t catch a break
—you don’t come from a rich a family
—you don’t have any connections
—they told you no
And the list can go on.
Yes, your list may be valid. And yes, these things may be slowing you down or standing in your way. But the truth is…these are all merely projections.
It’s a way of putting the responsibility on everyone and everything outside of you. At the end of the day, YOU are responsible for your choices. Your circumstances aren’t going to change until YOU change them.
Instead of focusing on all the reasons why you can’t do something, ask yourself: What can I do for myself to ensure my success?
Taking responsibility is going to require making hard choices. It’s going to require being clear on your priorities and saying no to people and things that do not support them. It will require lifestyle changes and letting go of bad habits. And the most difficult of them all, taking responsibility will force you to deal with your shit.
That’s really the reason you’re not making progress. You don’t want to face your shit and be honest with how you really feel about yourself and the things that have happened to you. You don’t want to deal with the emotions that are triggered when you try to go for what you want. And I get that, no one wants to do things that make them feel bad.
But, “living never wore one out so much as the effort not to live.” -Anais Nin
Going for what you want is hard, but living your life with bitterness and regret is harder.
Yes, your situation might be unfair. But you can’t give up. You can’t hide and make excuses. You have to do ALL that you can do and trust that God is going to meet you where you are.
This week, I encourage you to be honest with yourself. What do you really want be/do/have? And, what do you need to start doing for yourself to ensure your success?
